Who Do You Want Doing Your Estate Sale?

Recently we had the opportunity to hold an estate sale for someone that was referred to us by another sale company that didn’t have the time to do this one.

It was described to us as a small sale, although there was much more than we thought.

Closets were packed, under the bathroom vanities were packed, and the garage held many treasures that were first unseen.

The house had already been listed for sale, so we had a time limit. It wasn’t a real tight schedule, but we made it work.

If you are not familiar with our sale company it is Estate Sales Made Easy Inc. You can also look up our website and blog to learn more about us

This all began with a call, then the owner’s phone number and then the contract. The owner had never met us, not knowing about us made her feel a little skeptical at first, but when we told her what we did and how we did it, she hired us for the job.

She is also out of state, but she has a cousin nearby, and he came to see what we were doing to set things up.

It took us about a week to clean, remove broken items, and set everything as nice as we could to give the impression that everything was in the right place.

We started out with the intention of doing a 2-day sale, and enough people asked us if we were going to do Sunday as well.

We did limit the Sunday hours for people to come by to pick up what they had purchased from the previous two days.

Overall, the sale was a success, as we were able to sell many items from the home, and I want to take a moment to let you know how it went.

Friday started at 8:00am, and we worked until 2:00 pm. We had over a hundred people come by and many made purchases, and some were just lookers.

Once we closed the sale, we immediately set out to make sure that things that had been moved around were put back to present them as if Saturday was the first day of the sale.

Saturday traffic through the home was more hectic than Friday, as more people were off from work, so they came by. We had much more traffic on Saturday, and good sales figures.

When 2:00pm came, and the sale closed, we did the same thing, making sure everything looked good for Sunday.

But we noticed a few things. We had some items missing that were not purchased. These were not big items, small enough to fit in a pocket when nobody is looking.

This action by whoever it was makes you wonder why people do that, but at the same time, we can’t possibly be everywhere at once to monitor who does what.

Sunday was a short day, and we sold some more items, and then closed the sale at 1:00 pm.

Once we did the total of how much money we made the seller for items they were probably not counting on, they were happy with what we did.

Here is a testimonial she sent via text message after she received her proceeds. We asked her if we could use this online, she said certainly. I am adding it verbatim what she sent:

Dear Julie, thank you so much. I received the check and the detailed spreadsheet.

I cannot thank you enough for all the outstanding work that you, your husband, and son did. It was so much more than I imagined. Your work and expertise have helped us enormously.

My cousin was at the house recently and told me that the house was immaculate. We appreciate everything that you all did. I wish you much success in all of your future estate sales. I would highly recommend you. God bless you and your family.

Maureen

Plus, during the sale, we had probably 25 comments on how nice the house looked as it was presented, how organized it was, and that the prices were not too high or too low.

I hope you keep us in mind when someone says they either need to downsize, move, or settle someone’s estate by clearing out the contents of a home for someone

They will be happy you sent them to us.
